Abstract

The Casamance is isolated from the rest of Senegal due to its remoteness from the economic centers of the country, a diffuse and heterogeneous population, and a low road density. Recently, the Senegalese government has implemented a series of infrastructures to open up the area, which should im- prove the mobility of the population and which could also have positive economic and political effects. We analyze how the isolation of the Casamance and these recent changes affect the mobility of the population and the repatriation of the deceased.
