Antropología, turismo y desarrollo en cuestión: el turismo comunitario a debate

This article presents an analysis of the contributions of the Anthropology of Tourism in Spain to problematize the controversial debate on community ba-sed tourism in Latin America. Among the multiplicity of tourism practices, commu-nity-based tourism, due to its special cha-racteristics, it has been used as a strategy for local development and has entered strongly in the political agenda of interna-tional cooperation from the implementa-tion of methodologies Pro Poor Tourism (PPT) and Sustainable Tourism for Elimi-nating Poverty (ST-EP). From the analysis of specific case studies in Latin America, the article discusses existing debates on the benefits and limitations of this type of tourism.
