Since the seventies, Portmán, on the Mediterranean coast (Murcia - Spain), has been surrounded by a prominent urban development of tourism. While most of the Murcian coast was being developed, Portmán was living for and off the min-ing industry. The mining industry decline started in the eighties, and by 1991 it had left behind a devastating environmental landscape by completely covering the big bay from which the village takes its name with mining waste. The changes in the practices and the discourses of the stakeholders regarding tourist development are the main focus of this article.
